MTV今天公布今年音樂錄影帶大獎（Video Music Awards）入圍名單，取消區隔性別的獎項，嘻哈歌手肯德瑞克拉馬爾（KendrickLamar）獲8項提名最風光。
身處於美國總統川普執政時代，以及在他引起文化領袖激烈反彈的社會氛圍下，MTV也宣布將頒發新獎項「最佳對抗體制音樂錄影帶獎」（Best Fight Against the System），以肯定支持社運人士創作的音樂，表揚「激勵觀眾挺身而出對抗不義的」錄影帶。
最受讚譽的嘻哈歌手肯德瑞克拉馬爾，獲得8項提名最多，包括以「HUMBLE」單曲入圍的年度音樂錄影帶（Video of the Year）。他在這支MV中反諷地裝扮成教宗與耶穌在「最後的晚餐」中的模樣。
以5項提名並列第2的是美國歌壇流行天后凱蒂佩芮（Katy Perry），入圍作品為拍出科幻遊樂園幻想畫面的「Chained to the Rhythm」；另一位是加拿大節奏藍調歌手威肯（The Weeknd），獲提名作品是有大牌歌手客串的「Reminder」。
本屆MTV音樂錄影帶大獎是首度不分性別頒獎，新設的年度最佳藝人獎（Artist of the Year）合併最佳男歌手與最佳女歌手錄影帶獎。
MTV在聲明中表示，MTV就是要「打破屏障」，在今年的MTV電影電視大獎（MTV Movie & TV Awards）以不分演員性別的方式頒獎，獲得正面迴響。
年度最佳藝人獎入圍者包含4名男藝人，分別為肯德瑞克拉馬爾、威肯與「火星人」布魯諾（Bruno Mars）和英國創作歌手紅髮艾德（Ed Sheeran），以及兩名女藝人，美國歌手亞莉安娜（Ariana Grande）和紐西蘭人氣歌手蘿兒（Lorde）。
